According to Wikipedia a trackback is one of three types of linkbacks or rather methods for web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles.

Trackbacks are primarily used for communication between blogs. If a blogger writes a new entry about an entry found at another blog, and both blogging tools support the TrackBack protocol, then the commenting blogger can notify the other blog with a “TrackBack ping”.

The receiving blog will typically display summaries of, and links to, all the commenting entries below the original entry. This allows for conversations spanning several blogs that readers can easily follow.

If you want to see whether or not your trackback system is working I have found a way to send a test trackback. It is located at a site called Pingates.com. The actual url for this online tool is http://tools.pingates.com/trackback

I would play around with this tool a little even sending test trackbacks about your own blog posts and those that others have made.

I was recently invited to join another social networking site that is still in the Beta phase of development. Actually I saw a post about it on MyLot by Warren Contreras who goes by the user name Old Buddy. MyLot being a social networking site themselves where people can earn money through starting and responding to discussions, saw this post as competition I guess and it was quickly deleted.

I remembered the post and went to Ojeez and did a search for Old Buddy and quickly found Warren there and signed up under him in Ojeez. There is no fee to this and if I understand correctly as well as building a network of business contacts you can also earn advertising credits for the site. This site has a lot of features and rather than to delve into all of them right here I will mention a few of them. In many ways it is reminiscent of MySpace but this is social networking for people with goals and plans for advancement.

In an effort to try and evaluate even more tools and plug-ins that have to do with search engine optimization I have installed two new plug-ins. One is called Seo-title-tag and the other is called Ultimate Tag Warrior.

In a blog that’s primarily about all things related to blogs and blogging, I suppose that you are wondering why I am writing about a directory that’s related to the whereabouts of Chinese restaurants worldwide. This directory is found at http://chinese-restaurants-directory.com. Part of the reason that I am writing about this directory is that such directories are the forerunners of todays web 2.0 technology, forums and blogs. Therefore, I am going to be examining some key features of this directory. By the way, the other reason that this directory is interesting to me is that I am fond of oriental food, especially the Chinese variety.

You can search this directory on many levels so if you want to find a Chinese restaurant in your city, especially if you live in a metropolitan area, you can look for Chinese restaurants in your city. I went directly to the USA section of restaurants and found Nebraska, which is where I live. I then looked for Lincoln, the city in which I live. There were seven Chinese restaurants listed for Lincoln, NE but three that are my favorites were not listed. However, the directory offers a suggest directory link through which a restaurant owner can suggest the name address and phone number of their restaurant. It appears that in order to do that they must offer a reciprocal link to the directory. I realize that the owners of the directory are trying to build website traffic by requesting reciprocal links but I think that they would build there directory faster if they let the people looking for Chinese restaurants add restaurants that they know of.

Whether or not the Chinese Restaurants Directory is a form of Web 2.0 it is definitely a great way to find Chinese restaurants in cities that you are visiting across the globe. I would suggest that if the owners of the directory had the programming capabilities that they add a section where people could add comments about the restaurants that they visit.

I am always looking for new tools and plugins that I can recommend, especially when these plugins or tools have to do with SEO or search engine optimization.
