Keep your business blogging alive

Friday 8 August 2008 @ 5:55 pm

The original intent of this blog was to deal with how to increase your business influence through blogging as well as provide resources for blogging. Over the time that Blog Smart Resources has been around we’ve also discussed such things as social networking, Web 2.0 and 3.0, RSS and many other off-shoots of the blogging phenomenon.

This article takes us back to talking about blogging for business. According to an article titled Dealing With the Bad Side of Business Blogging ‘blogs take a while to mature, and along the way, every business blogger will deal with languishing in obscurity, cutting criticism, and a lack of motivation.” This has been certainly true in my case as sometimes I have thought about throwing in the towel when it comes to blogging. Sometimes it seems as if my time is limited and I never get time to write a decent post.

Dealing With the Bad Side of Business Blogging gives three helpful tips with explanations in detail on how to handle these growing pains so that a blog can attract new readers, weather growing pains and improve search engine rankings in order to generate new business.

The first tip is that bloggers should get used to speaking to an empty room. Blogs take a while to get indexed by a search engine and to develop a following. It is suggested that you write about content that is relevant at any time.

Secondly the author of this article suggests that you must develop a thick skin as ultimately you will get “flamed” by people. It is also important to separate careless attacks from thoughtful criticism.

The other thing mentioned in the article and something that I have been very guilty of is not posting for long periods of time. Since you’ve worked hard to develop readership it is important to provide fresh content and generate new ideas for features. If you stop posting too long your new content will stop getting indexed and your rankings will fall. You should post at least three times a week or you will struggle to keep your readers.

Taking notice of these points is important and I will try to take these facts into consideration with dealing with this blog as well as any others that I have.

Backlinks Surprise

Tuesday 18 March 2008 @ 4:08 pm

For some reason when I login into Wordpress my dashboard only shows three incoming links. It used to show several more. Where they went is a question that I have not been able to answer. Also, I have posted comments at several blogs within the last few weeks and these do not register. If anyone else has this situation and an explanation for it please let me know.

On the positive side I found a tool at http://www.thelinkpop.com/index.php to check link popularity and found out that on the following search engines I have  the following number of links at the following search engines.

Domain www.blogsmart-resources.com
Search Engines
Yahoo! 743 (check)
Yahoo! linkdomain 900 (check)
Google 35 (check)
AltaVista 681 (check)

This is indeed a pleasant surprise. I suggest that you try this tool and find out how many backlinks that you have for your website.

My CC Blog

Wednesday 5 March 2008 @ 7:51 pm

I just found a new blog host that uses the Wordpress blog platform and pays you money for promoting the site. But the greatest thing about My CC Blog is that every blog is optimized to be noticed by both Google and blog search engine Technorati. It is set up to be SEO optimized.

I don’t have a lot more to say here except to give you access to two links:

The first is my referral link to My CC Blog. It is http://myccblog.com/member/?rid=924

The second is the link to my new blog Keith’s Blog of Blogs at http://keithstieneke.myccblog.com.

I haven’t done any configuration to my new blog as of yet or even made a post to it, but I plan on doing that very soon.

Comment Sniper is awesome software.

Monday 18 February 2008 @ 7:25 pm

I’ve found a great new website traffic tool that for the time being is absolutely free although soon it will retail for $47. The name for this piece of software is Comment Sniper.

Comment Sniper gives you a way to build targeted, valuable, strong and lasting traffic to your website at no cost. It does this by allowing you to tap into the first mover advantage of blog comment posting. It helps you to find the most popular and influential blogs in your industry and load them into Comment Sniper for 24/7 monitoring of new posts. As an additional feature if you have a mobile phone you can configure this program with your mobile phone number for optional SMS monitoring. Notifications are by immediate desktop and/or SMS to your mobile phone the second a new post is made in any of the blogs that you are monitoring.

Because you are alerted especially if you have a mobile phone to take advantage of the SMS option you can be alerted moments after the new post is made so that you can comment. Your comment should be genuinely of value to the article being discussed. Readers will visit your website more often if you take the blog article and add value to it with your comments.

Since influential blogs related to your niche industry make new posts all the time, posts that may be read by thousands of people in the months to come. You only have one chance to be the first to comment on that post and ride that unique wave.

To download Comment Sniper now go to http://www.commentsniper.com/ and fill out the short form so that you receive the free registration code via your email address. I wish you happy and productive commenting.

Search Engine Optimization Tips for Wordpress

Thursday 23 August 2007 @ 3:57 pm

Today I incorporated three of the tips given in Michael Pollock’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Tips for Wordpress. Although Michael lists eight tips I have only incorporated what I feel are the bare essentials.

The tips that I incorporated into Blog Smart Resources are as follows:
1. Make your post titles live links. This is done by going to the main index template and the page template replacing <h2><?php the_title(); ?></h2>
with <h2><a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>” rel=”bookmark” title=”Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>
2. Optimize your permalinks. This is a simple change to make. In your WP admin panel, click on the “Options” tab, then the “Permalinks” sub-tab, and choose the option just below the “Default” permalink option, and
3. Optimize your page titles by going to the header template and replacing <title><?php bloginfo(’name’); ?><?php wp_title(); ?></title> with <h2><a href=”<?php
the_permalink() ?>” rel=”bookmark” title=”Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>. Make sure that you leave out any # symbols.

On the plus side this will in the future increase search engine optimization. Unfortunately for the time being with the permalinks being changed the PlugIMs and Sphinns that I registered and the ones that I received from other people will not register. Despite losing these tags and some others I am looking forward to see how my posts are indexed with Google in the near future. I expect amazing results.

Profitable Search Engine Marketing With Blogs

Tuesday 7 August 2007 @ 4:25 pm

Profitable Search Engine Marketing With Blogs by Keith Stieneke

If you are involved in any type of affiliate program or online network marketing program then you should really be using a blog or several blogs to help you to market your opportunity and products. There are several reasons for using blogs for marketing and in this article these reasons are explained.

Stripped down a blog is nothing more than a website. However, what is it about blogs that make them a perfect tool for making money online?

A large part of this is that a blog offers an easy to use content management system that allows for quick updating in chronological order.

Because blogs are usually heavy on content and organized in an intuitve fashion their structure is perfect for producing revenue. Blogs are easy to produce as content based websites complete with the potential of well targeted pages.

Blogs have a definite advantage over traditional websites in that content can be added easily. Adding new content to a static website can be both problematic in terms of design and also difficult due to time restraints. This is an important factor to remember as your success will depend in large measure on your ability to add new content for your visitors.

Blogging solves many problems associated with traditional websites. The most common is the hassle that having to write content and then convert it or pay to have it converted into html. Since all major blog platforms allow users to create new posts and add them easily with a few clicks of the mouse webmaster can add new content in minutes. Blogs are content driven and serve to build relationships with search engines.

Search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN reward information sites that are full of information, by giving them better positioning in search results and indexing these sites quickly. This makes these sites soar to the top of the search engine rankings. Blogs also maintain a stickiness as they draw return visitors to a website far more likely.

In conclusion using blogs to promote your affiliate marketing programs or network marketing programs and the opportunities and products that they represent may be the best business decision that you ever make. You can constantly add updates to your blog and therefore communicate with prospects. If you are involved in online money making ventures and as of yet don’t have your own blog I encourage you to start one A.S.A.P.

Traffic For Your Marketing Blog

Friday 20 July 2007 @ 11:29 pm

I would like to thank Michelle Macphearson of the blog Social Marketing for providing the information that is contained in this article and to bringing these fantastic tools to my attention.

If you are wanting traffic to your Internet marketing blogs it is important to get targeted traffic. You wouldn’t advertise how to grow watermelons on an advertising site about making money online would you?

Michelle Macphearson writes an interesting post about two plugins that can help you to get targeted traffic to your Internet marketing blog(s). Her post is found at Two Braindead Simple Ways to Bring Traffic to Your Marketing Blog Today.

These plugins are associated with websites  for internet marketers, by internet marketers that have the main goal to send you targeted, quality traffic. PlugIM and Sphinn are the two websites that Michelle is referring to in her blog post.

Your first order of business is to visit PlugIM and Sphinn and create your free accounts. Next go to the download the PlugIM Wordpress Plugin. Next do the same with the Sphinn plugin.

PlugIM allows you to add your RSS feed so that your new blog posts are automatically added to their site - a neat feature that makes this process even simpler. With Sphinn, you’ll have to click your new “Sphinn It” button that shows up on your posts - you’ll be brought to the submission page and can add a brief excerpt to your story. In this way you can also categorize the post in Sphinn so that people searching for posts in a certain category can find them.

Install these plugins as you would install any other Wordpress plugins and activate them in the plugin section of your Wordpress administrative area.

These plugins will help your SEO as you will be receiving backlinks from authority sites in the marketing niche every time you submit a story.

If you need more detailed instructions on how to use these be sure to visit Michelle’s post.

I have just installed Seo-title-tag and Ultimate Tag Warrior

Thursday 7 June 2007 @ 4:30 pm

In an effort to try and evaluate even more tools and plug-ins that have to do with search engine optimization I have installed two new plug-ins. One is called Seo-title-tag and the other is called Ultimate Tag Warrior.

Seo-Title-Tag allows you to decouple post titles from title tags. If this plugin, along with a few hours of keyword research and copywriting of optimized titles, doesn’t make a significant impact on your search traffic, you’re doing something wrong! Download it here.

Ultimate Tag Warrior is described as a multi-headed hydra of a plugin. It allows you to add tags either through the Write Post page in wordpress in a tag box, on posts using an AJAXy box, and in posts using special syntax from external editors (or internally, if you’d like). Download Ultimate Tag Warrior.
